STEPS TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

Care for our Environment & our Community

Parkside Hotel & Apartments is committed to taking steps towards ensuring that our hotel operations have a low impact on the environment.

Reducing consumption, using sustainable alternatives and encouraging staff & guests to be mindful of recycling & reusing are simple examples of this.

Our most recent change is to upgrade the Swimming Pool to having magnesium added to the water; this is less corrosive than chlorine and has added benefits for the body.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION

CO2 sensors have been installed in the carpark removing the need to have ventilation fans running.

Fans elsewhere in the building have timers installed to conserve power.

Installed switching in fans on the roof which means that they will start in the event of a fire. Previously these fans were running 24/7.

Installed seals on the main hotel entrance door so that less cold air comes in when they are closed.

Upgraded the aircon system in common areas on the ground floor for better temperature management and reduced energy consumption.

Lighting is being upgraded to LED as we need to replace failed lights in the corridors and carpark.

Installed VRF central air conditioning system which balances the heating and cooling requirements on each floor. If one room is heating and another is cooling, then the energy cost is zero.

CONSCIOUS CHOICES ABOUT CONSUMABLES

We proudly participate in Soap Aid, an organisation that collects from hotels, waste bars of soap that guests have part-used The soap then gets sanitized and re-formed to provide soap for communities in need.

Within Parkside Hotel & Apartments we elect to only use environmentally friendly laundry and cleaning products from our housekeeping and laundry suppliers.

We are working to reduce the amount of paper we use in our admin offices and ensure that recycled paper is used where we need to. Any waste paper not being reused is recycled, not thrown in the bin!

Bin bags used in all of our guest rooms are biodegradable where possible meaning that they will breakdown within months of going to landfill.

RECYCLING

Our recycling programme extends to the tenants in our building as well as the hotel guests. We recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, tin, aluminum and food waste.

SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY

Unused guest toiletries, surplus linens and other items belonging to the hotel that are no longer of hotel standard are gifted to charitable organisations including the Salvation Army.

We recognize the vital role that the Ambulance Professionals play in our community and support the work that they do.
